Take a Picture. It'll Last Longer
I went to NY this past weekend to take a complimentary class in lighting for photography. It was very informative, not to mention fun. The thing I love about photography is not only the creativity behind every photo, or the fact that a photo captures one moment in time that will never exist again no matter how hard you try to recreate it, but the fact that like with many new technologies, you never stop learning. There is always something new coming out to help capture those precious moments. As I sat in Lighting 101, I listened to the professor beg us not to "give up" on film, seeing that so many have converted to the ever more popular digital camera. Though both have their pros and cons, hearing the professor's passion for film has made me think (this could be a bad thing)... I know I concentrate a lot on digital right now but I still would never want to see film come completely to an end. There will always be that satisfaction of printing your own film after hours and days (literally) in the darkroom. I know when I took a darkroom class, I was so pressed for time, I did not completely get to enjoy the art of creating my own photo without saying "oh well...best I could do, gotta run". I commend those who have the time (and patience). Even though I did not get the fulfillment that comes along with the darkroom, I would hate to see it disappear. Hopefully it won't, professor, but like they say, 'all good things must come to an end' so just, 'take a picture, it'll last longer'.
